A generalization of the Erdös-Ko-Rado theorem

In this note, we investigate some properties of local Kneser graphs defined in [János Körner, Concetta Pilotto, Gábor Simonyi, Local chromatic number and sperner capacity, J. Combin. Theory Ser. B 95 (1) (2005) 101-117]. In this regard, as a generalization of the Erdös-Ko-Rado theorem, we characterize the maximum independent sets of local Kneser graphs. Next, we provide an upper bound for their chromatic number.

Investigation of a mutual interaction force at different pressure amplitudes in sulfuric acid

This paper investigates the secondary Bjerknes force for two oscillating bubbles in various pressure amplitudes in a concentration of 95% sulfuric acid.The equilibrium radii of the bubbles are assumed to be smaller than 10 μm at a frequency of 37 kHz in various strong driving acoustical fields around 2.0 bars (1 bar=10 5 Pa).The secondary Bjerknes force is investigated in uncoupled and coupled states between the bubbles,with regard to the quasi-adiabatic model for the bubble interior.It finds that the value of the secondary Bjerknes force depends on the driven pressure of sulfuric acid and its amount would be increased by liquid pressure amplitude enhancement.The results show that the repulsion area of the interaction force would be increased by increasing the driven pressure because of nonlinear oscillation of bubbles.     

Magnetoelastic properties of Nd6Fe13Cu intermetallic compound

Magnetoelastic properties of Nd₆Fe₁₃Cu intermetallic compound are reported. To study the magnetoelastic behaviour of this compound, the thermal expansion as well as the longitudinal (λ_l) and transverse (λ_t) magnetostriction were measured by using the strain gauge method in the selected temperature range of 80-500 K under applied magnetic fields up to 1.5 T. An anomaly and invar-type effects are observed in the linear thermal expansion and α(T) curves at the Néel temperature. The linear spontaneous magnetostriction decreases sharply by approaching the Néel temperature and also shows the short-range magnetic ordering effects when antiferromagnetic-paramagnetic transition occurs. In the low field region, the absolute values of the anisotropic magnetostriction are small and then start to increase with applied magnetic field. Each isofield curve of the anisotropic magnetostriction passes through a minimum and then approaches to zero with increasing temperature. This magnetostriction compensation arises from the difference in the magnetoelastic coupling constants of the sublattices in this compound.     

A multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis of trading behavior of individual and institutional traders in Tehran stock market

Employing the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA), the multifractal properties of trading behavior of individual and institutional traders in the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE) are numerically investigated. Using daily trading volume time series of these two categories of traders, the scaling exponents, generalized Hurst exponents, generalized fractal dimensions and singularity spectrum are derived. Furthermore, two main sources of multifractality, i.e. temporal correlations and fat-tailed probability distributions are also examined. We also compare our results with data of S&P 500. Results of this paper suggest that for both classes of investors in TSE, multifractality is mainly due to long-range correlation while for S&P 500, the fat-tailed probability distribution is the main source of multifractality.

Generating and analyzing spatial social networks

In this paper, we propose a class of models for generating spatial versions of three classic networks: Erdös-Rényi (ER), Watts-Strogatz (WS), and Barabási-Albert (BA). We assume that nodes have geographical coordinates, are uniformly distributed over an m × m Cartesian space, and long-distance connections are penalized. Our computational results show higher clustering coefficient, assortativity, and transitivity in all three spatial networks, and imperfect power law degree distribution in the BA network. Furthermore, we analyze a special case with geographically clustered coordinates, resembling real human communities, in which points are clustered over k centers. Comparison between the uniformly and geographically clustered versions of the proposed spatial networks show an increase in values of the clustering coefficient, assortativity, and transitivity, and a lognormal degree distribution for spatially clustered ER, taller degree distribution and higher average path length for spatially clustered WS, and higher clustering coefficient and transitivity for the spatially clustered BA networks.
